SoCal Region Marks 50th Anniversary
Nineteen Sixty-One. JFK is
inaugurated. The space race is on. The Berlin Wall goes up. And the
Southern California Region becomes the third officially recognized
region of the Cadillac & LaSalle Club.
On
May 1, 2011, the SoCal Region celebrated its 50th
anniversary, hosting 100 members at a fully catered lunch in the setting
of long-time SoCal member Gary Severns’s private collection.
Housed in a private warehouse, the collection encompasses beautifully
restored and preserved cars from the early 1930s through the mid-1950s,
many CCCA Full Classics, and made for the ideal setting for members to
enjoy each other’s company, wonderful food, and music courtesy of a
professional string quartet.
New
SoCal board member Omar Prioleau presented the Region with a certificate
of commendation from Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas.
Several members brought their
own collectable Cadillacs to share, ranging from the classic elegance of
founding SoCal member Paul Schinnerer’s 1930 V16 All Weather Phaeton, to
the ostentation of Jerry Hopper’s 1978 Eldorado Biarritz, to the trim
sportiness of Shari Ten Eyk’s 1993 Allante.
Attendees were also able to view a second collection of exotic cars
located next door to Mr. Severns’s collection, with pride of place being
given to a blue over cream XLR.
Special thanks go to Linda Leonard, Calvin Jones, and the rest of the
SoCal Region board whose hard work made this event a success.
Thanks also to Gary and Margarita Severns for their generosity in
opening their collection for the enjoyment of their fellow CLC members.
Here’s looking forward to another
Wonderful 50 years! |
